Much like you gentleman I also have work related news to share. My director fought long and hard with the board of my company and got me off consultant status (1099 self-employed) and back on salary and I am fully vested for my 401k and medical benefits. Plus I have been contacted by a vendor of ours and asked if I was interested in doing some freelance work for him in the IT sphere from time to time.
{I'm also trying to slither my way into consulting for my wifes company's IT needs} The next 6 months could have many of happenings to add to the new house. Sure would be lovely to pay of student loans, make a substantial dent in my new mortgage, and have the cash on hand to buy the FoRS when it releases. So in celebration have some high quality car related gifs on me. :)

Congratulations! Isn't it great to make that jump beyond contracting? I've been in that situation myself. Happy for you!

Congratulations! I'm sure getting out of contracting and into a salaried position feels great.
I'm currently considering the opposite. I'm not super thrilled with my current job, but the job I've been chasing for 2 years may have an opening, but only as a contractor. It's a government job, and it would be a good way to get my foot in the door, so when a permanent slot opens up I'd be first in line to get it, but my concern is with the pending budget woes, I'd hate to ditch a stable gig and go to contracting only to get dumped in 6 months or whatever.

Well, oddly enough this started as a salaried position but due to short0sightedness and federal lockdown on DHS and Dept of State spending our company was in a pickle for a little while.
I interviewed a round a couple places and almost took a job in the healthcare data mining industry the day that Anthem healthcare go hacked. I was this close to never being able to work in IT again. (You don;t want to be anywhere near a HIPAA violation even if you were just brought onboard, it is a career ender in IT)
But I love my company, and for the most part everything I do. I've mostly been righting the wrongs of lazy and incompetent former IT employees until now when I am working on future proofing and virtualizing just about everything in a push to get more people working remotely. I don;t see a point in having an office space when 70% of our company works on-site at federal construction gigs.
